Default Reviews--A possible addition to the site

What I think would be cool to add to this site would be a "Reviews" section, where you basically review various sets you have and post descriptions of them. These are basically references for those who want to know about sets before buying them.

I'll use a potential review for the Loopin' Lightning I wrote on the spot:

The Loopin' Lightning is a 686-piece, VV-style roller coaster. One feature of this set is it includes curved track, so you can now make curves as long as they measure at least 45 degrees. However, the track type is different from the original VV sets, and by the looks of it, all the future ones will be different as well, so anyone who wants to start building VV coasters would be better starting with this set.

Of the 686 pieces in the set, 7 are straight track, 13 are curved track, 129 are Micro-size chain links, about 15 are "specialty" pieces, about 100 are Micro pieces, and the rest are all regular pieces.

This set is good for those who are making a fresh start with roller coasters, because it is a brand new track type, and it looks like K'Nex will continue to make these kinds of coasters. It is also useful if you are in need of long red or gray rods (53 and 38 respectively), 3D connectors (43 silver, 29 blue), or if you are a diehard coaster enthusiast who wants to incorporate curved tracks into your VV coaster models (you may also want to snap up a Lava Launch or such if you want to build even bigger). It is also good for those who like regular pieces more than Micro, because there aren't many sets out there nowadays with more than 200 regular pieces. This set has at least 400 altogether.

This is not good for those who want larger sets, because it is not particularly big as a set (686 pieces isn't quite enough to be called "big"), or those looking for Micro pieces (again, very few of the pieces in this set are Micro-scale). If you're a coaster enthusiast who objects vehemently to the VV track, obviously you wouldn't like this set much, either (unless you like the idea of curved VV track).

Personally, I like this set because it supplies a vast amount of pieces I can use to great extent. I thought it was a good deal for what I got, and I would recommend it to any moderate coaster enthusiast looking for a "more realistic" coaster, anyone who enjoys VV track at all, and anyone looking for sets with a bunch of regular pieces.

---End of review---

If this works, my advance suggestions: Don't make the reviews too biased, because nobody thinks the exact same way you do on everything. Obviously you should say how it affected you and how you would recommend it, but don't go much farther than that. Also, you might notice I focused more on explaining about the set than how I felt about it. And, last but not least, I strongly advise spelling correctly. People will take you a lot more seriously if you do.

I moved this from Staff to here, because we should technically get as much input on this as possible.

Sorry for the DP.

I like it. I need to do one for the Lava Launch.

Sounds good, I say we just get a sub-forum for it.

Wait, is this just for sets, or can it be extended to all creations, even original ones that users have made?

This was intended to review only sets K'Nex has made, so others know whether or not it is a set they would enjoy.

I'm worried that talking about other users' designs would start flame wars because the original creator and writer(s) might have some major disagreements about things, thus causing an eruption of flame wars. That's not something I'm about to let happen.

EDIT: Wow, I just realized out of all my posts, this is only the second thread I've made on this site.

I think it's a good idea if meny ppl are still buying sets (i just search second handed at my surroundings)

though, there should be a list of available sets (which i can't realy find on the internet?) so u can select which one to post a review on. else, ppl might review the same set but the website doesn't put them as reviews of the same set

I like the review idea. I would be able to do tons of them if I had enough time. I think there should be a Knex set database that lists all of the sets Knex has ever made, then people will be able to do reviews on the ones they have.

You can just check the "Where To Buy" section for each of K'Nex's sets. They'll link you to plenty of retailers.

Also, there's nothing wrong with reviewing the same set(s) others reviewed (if you have them). Sometimes, people want multiple opinions before they buy the sets. I don't buy something unless I can either see some good uses for them or if the set has a generally-positive review standpoint.

We do have a sets database in the plans. We have been wanting to do it since before the site was open, but have not had the time to do so yet.

We do reviews on 'ibles all the time. Most people probably have enough sense to know that a review is basically what someone thinks of a product. If they don't like it, it's probably not with their tastes or something happened and it doesn't work well. If it's an older gun, the original builder may have a lower opinion of it than if it was brand new as well.
