Well, that would definitely limit a lot of people cause not everyone has solar powered motors laying around. How about a winter contest. Some type of ball machine/gun/tower winter themed? Or maybe a contest for the best invention under 500 pc? Anything is great really.

^I like the idea of something with a piece and/or size limit.

That would make it really challenging.

I'd prefer not another gun contest...A piece limit sounds good though.
I don't know... a contest for most creative <500pcs ball machine?

Or if ball-machine themed:
most original ball (hindrance) track
=> as in one element (not a sequence of multiple),

I saw things on youtube like a hill with pins (so the ball bounces all the way down), or like the chain bridge from wannywanson in Davinch etc.

ofcourse, they must be new ones (and not yet on instructables or alike)

meh, i already got my wheel slide in the video of my ball machine, now i got to invent something new XD

I think the theme should be a ball machine lift instead of a ball machine.

For a contest with less than x many pieces, how do we go about judging that many pieces were actually used?

Honesty...lol. You could get the person to post a picture of it complete, and then a picture of it taken apart and seperated.

Your right though. It could get a little confusing.

Maybe a contest that, instead of having a limited amount of pieces, one that has to fit in a certain space, like the contest on SSC a while back.
Maybe best ball machine in a square foot box?

Or the highest tower with like .. 50 pieces.
And the 50 pieces could even be mentioned:

like 3 grey rods, 6 red rods, etc.

This way it'll be most likely something that can still fit in one's room.

Not a bad idea. In one of my classes we had to build the tallest tower with a box of spaghetti and a roll of tape in ten minutes.

Ok. I am leaning towards something like this:

Could use some help writing up the restrictions.

Well, I think the best way of choosing the pieces is making a few towers yourself first. Limiting on 20-50 or whatever pieces.
They could even be just small pieces. So it's surely going to be something that fits your room (as I don't think it's a good idea to be building outside these days).

And there should be rules like you need to photograph it from different angles, showing there aren't eny ropes/strings holding it up and how tall it actually is. Or just making a little movie that shows it's free-standing abilities.

Same things could be done for things like vehicles, guns (which I don't like). But these would need a different kind of evaluation.

On my previous school we had practical design lessons, we got 20 sheets of paper, tape and it should hold a decent weighed scissor for at least 1 minute without breaking/bending/falling over. If you were a girl and smiled in a cute way at the teacher you were sure to get some extra sheets. He was such a perv.

Can't really do that as I do not have any K'Nex at college.

You shouldn't be able to use exotic parts, such as the long orange arm from the air ball factory. Or the big tubes, you could just stack those! :P

Yeah, just regular parts, no micro stuff, blocks or rare /exotic parts as kairah calls them.

This way the most ppl will be able to participate.

Sorry for another dubbelpost (but if I'd just edit my last one, no one would see)

But I got another idea for contests;
One could be building replicas, or certain things, but with a given size.
Like, building the Eifel tower between 90 and 100 cm.

In my opinion, we should not go crazy on the contests just yet, we don't have enough members to have a decent competition.

Luckily, the member base is steadily increasing.
