I've already posted this on SSC, but here it is again. One of my greatest accomplishments.

Man that thing is awesome. How long did it take to make?

It took me a couple months to plan and build. Most of that time was spent experimenting different ways to prevent it from tipping over and making the base strong enough to support its massive weight plus its load. The whole process was basically trial and error until I found a solution that worked best.

I'd love to try that, What did you do to help you come up w/ the design?

How much weight can the crane lift, if any?

How much load can it carry at the top and middle part of the boom?

I based my model off of the Demag CC 12600. I made some modifications, but I tried to keep the overall design of the crane.

Unfortunately, my model didn't have very sufficient lifting capabilities. It was a challenge for it to simply stand on its own. However i did detach the jib and I shortened the main boom so that it could sustain a lift.



That weight was approximately 6 or 7 pounds. Not much, but pretty impressive for k'nex.

Maybe next time I'll build another crane that can sustain a larger load.

This is very cool, it makes me want to build one...

Sorry LukeIsLuke, but I built this several years ago and since then I have slowly lost interest in building. I haven't built anything that big in a long time, but who knows I may take another stab at something like this.

We'll talk. I hope to see a bigger and better crane, ball tower, or whatever from you.
