It took me a couple months to plan and build. Most of that time was spent experimenting different ways to prevent it from tipping over and making the base strong enough to support its massive weight plus its load. The whole process was basically trial and error until I found a solution that worked best.

I'd love to try that, What did you do to help you come up w/ the design?

How much weight can the crane lift, if any?

And be sure to add it to the database: K'Nex Models Database

Man that thingis awesome! I tried to make something like thisbut it was a complete failure

Oh and btw, I'm Luc2000, from knexinnovation.net. I actually wanted to make an account on ssc first, but I don't build that much rollercoasters, so I didn't. Then I found KI, and signed up for that. And now I signed up for this .

How much load can it carry at the top and middle part of the boom?

I based my model off of the Demag CC 12600. I made some modifications, but I tried to keep the overall design of the crane.

Unfortunately, my model didn't have very sufficient lifting capabilities. It was a challenge for it to simply stand on its own. However i did detach the jib and I shortened the main boom so that it could sustain a lift.

That weight was approximately 6 or 7 pounds. Not much, but pretty impressive for k'nex.

Maybe next time I'll build another crane that can sustain a larger load.

Sorry LukeIsLuke, but I built this several years ago and since then I have slowly lost interest in building. I haven't built anything that big in a long time, but who knows I may take another stab at something like this.

We'll talk. I hope to see a bigger and better crane, ball tower, or whatever from you.
EDIT:
I'm gonna put this in the promo video. (Hope you don't mind if I hi-jack your pictures )
