Thats pretty cool. I think I know how it works, but a short vid would be nice. I like how on the new gear, there's so many places that you can put rods through.

very nice job

Is there an application in mind that you are going to use this for?

It would be to big to fit in a car

I need this for my future project.

The coaster will feature a tiredrive system that also act as a brakerun. By allowing the wheels to spin freely when a train rushes in it doesn't strain the motor, but as soon as it catches again, the train is moved forward.

That's a really helpful device you got there. I also might use it on one of my coasters.

Aight, I got the system working, but I won't start a test track till December.

We'll see how it works out.

Hi Kairah,

Don't know if this thread is still alive, sure hope so. I'm in the process of optimizing a remote controlled K'nex car. If you're interested, have a look here
.
Main limitations is the lack of a differential. It slows tremendously when making curves, and absorbs too much energy. However the differential has to be small enough to fit within the size of the yellow gear. Any ideas? Have you seen anybody doing this already?

Hello janssnet,

First of, I would like to welcome you to the forum. And that car is quite fast indeed! I'm not so sure if a knex differential would be suitable for this... Most of them are not very strong or do not turn very well. These are probably the smallest versions you can make:
K'Nex Differencial (Version 1)
K'nex Differential (Version 2)
I dont know how good they work, but they do fit in the size of a yellow gear.

Keep us updated!

Hi Kairah,

Thanks for your quick reply.
I'm afraid the width of the differentials you referred to is far to much to fit the width of my car. Nevertheless, many thanks. Tried today to realise something by modifying some Knex parts. Probably this is like 'cursing in church', but sometime you just want it to work. Unfortunately it didn't. Time for some brilliant new ideas ...
